This is because her good health also influences the health of the unborn child. Therefore, it is highly imperative that the diet to be taken is rich in nutritive value and is a balanced one.
It is important to note that some food or other products may prove to be harmful to health and development of the soon-to-be mother and the unborn child. Let us have a close look at some of these products to create a better level of understanding.
Food products such as tilefish, shark, swordfish, King mackerel, raw fish, oyster, burgers, raw eggs, canned pate, unwashed fruits and vegetables, soda, frozen food, sausages, heat deli meats, uncooked seafood, raw meat, and unpasteurized milk products must be avoided as much as possible. In addition to that, use of cigarettes, sedatives, antidepressants, steroids, alcohol, and caffeine must be best avoided by an expecting mother.
Furthermore, it is imperative to note that soft cheese products such as cambert, blue cheese, queso blanco and queso fresco cheeses can prove to be harmful for health as they easily get contaminated with the Listeria bacteria, which may even result in severe illness or death of the unborn child. Products that have a high quantity of animal liver must be avoided as they can lead to a high incidence of child birth defects.
In addition to these food products, proper hygiene must always be maintained. An expecting mother must ensure that her hands are regularly washed up so that the risk of infections can be minimized. Furthermore, regular medical checkups and an active lifestyle can ensure that there are no complications during the labor period.
